Laser Hair Removal Treatment Highlights

  • Medical-grade technology: Latest, state-of-the-art Diode and 1064-Nd YAG laser systems for high speed tailored treatments.
  • Personalised treatment settings: Settings are selected according to skin type, hair characteristics and treatment area.
  • Clinical assessment and safety: Treatment suitability, expected results, potential risks and aftercare are discussed before commencing.

Medical laser hair removal uses concentrated light energy to target pigment within the hair follicle, reducing hair growth over a course of treatments. It can be used on a range of body areas, with treatment settings selected according to skin type, hair colour, hair thickness and the area being treated.

Medaesthetics has a longstanding history of medical laser treatments in Western Australia. We were the first clinic in WA to offer Laser Hair Removal treatment back in 2013.

Our approach combines medical-grade laser technology with individual assessment and personalised treatment planning. Using diode and Nd YAG laser systems allows us to select an appropriate approach for different skin types and hair characteristics.

Treatment Discomfort:

Advanced skin cooling technology to minimize any treatment discomfort. We also offer extra-strength topical anaesthetic cream to numb the skin in sensitive areas.

Longevity:

Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction. Some regrowth may occur over time, and maintenance sessions may be required to maintain results.

Location:

Available at all MedAesthetics clinics.

Treatment Areas

Most hair-bearing areas can be treated, including:

  • Underarms
  • Full legs and half legs
  • Full arms, half arms and forearms
  • Bikini line, Brazilian and extended bikini
  • Facial areas — chin, upper lip, brows and sideburns
  • For men — chest, back, neck, forearms, ears and hands

Common Names

  • Laser hair reduction
  • Long-term hair reduction
  • LHR

MOA

Laser energy targets melanin in the hair, generating heat that damages the hair follicle and reduces its ability to produce hair. Multiple sessions are required to target hairs during their active growth phase.

Laser energy responds most to darker, more pigmented hair, so lighter-coloured hair is more difficult to treat.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment Summary

Number of Treatments

Typically, 6–10 sessions are required, spaced several weeks apart. The number depends on the treatment area, hair characteristics and individual response. Maintenance sessions may be needed.

Procedure Time

Each treatment session takes about 5 to 30 minutes, depending on the area treated.

Discomfort Level

Most patients describe a brief snapping or warm sensation during treatment. Advanced laser technology and cooling systems can help minimise discomfort. Sensitivity varies between individuals and treatment areas.

Recovery Time

There is generally minimal downtime. Temporary redness, mild swelling or sensitivity may occur and usually settles within a few hours to a few days.

Results

Hair growth gradually reduces over a course of treatments.

Duration of Results

Results can last for years, with long-term hair reduction following a completed course. Occasional maintenance sessions may be required as some hair regrows over time.

Resumption of Usual Activities

There is generally little downtime, and most people return to their usual activities straight away.

Aftercare

Avoid hot showers, saunas, strenuous exercise and irritating skincare products for 24–48 hours. Protect treated areas from direct sun exposure while the skin feels sensitive after the treatment.

Laser Hair Removal General Information

The Laser Platforms We Use

At MedAesthetics we use medical-grade laser platforms and select the device and settings to suit your individual skin and hair type. The platforms we use include the Lumenis LightSheer Diode (810nm and 1064nm) — with a large spot size and vacuum-assisted technology used for larger areas such as arms, legs and back — the Lumenis LightSheer Desire (805nm and 1064nm), the Cutera XEO (1064nm Nd:YAG), the Clarity laser (755nm and 1064nm) and the RevLite SI (1064nm). Having a range of platforms allows us to treat a variety of skin types.

Medical Conditions & Excess Hair Growth

Some people seek treatment in connection with recognised medical conditions, including hirsutism (excessive hair growth in women, which can be associated with factors such as polycystic ovary syndrome — PCOS), hypertrichosis (excessive hair growth beyond the norm for a person’s age, sex and background) and folliculitis barbae (an inflammatory reaction around ingrown facial hair, also known as shaving rash or razor bumps).

How to Choose Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment Provider

Laser hair removal targets the pigment in the hair follicle, so both results and safety depend on matching the device and settings to your particular skin and hair colour. Before choosing a provider, consider:

  • Whether medical-grade platforms suited to your skin and hair type are used (for example Diode, Nd:YAG and Alexandrite lasers), rather than a single machine applied to everyone
  • Whether your skin and hair are assessed first, since darker skin carries a higher risk of burns or hyperpigmentation and lighter hair responds poorly
  • An honest explanation that several sessions are always needed — only some follicles are active at a time — and that this is long-term reduction, not permanent removal
  • If your hair growth relates to a condition such as PCOS, hirsutism or folliculitis barbae, whether that is acknowledged rather than the hair treated in isolation
  • The practitioner’s qualifications and registration, and no pressure to prepay for a fixed package on the spot
Why Choose MedAesthetics for Laser Hair Removal?

The main risks of laser hair removal — burns and pigment changes — rise when the device or settings do not match the skin being treated, which is why proper assessment and appropriate equipment matter. At MedAesthetics it is performed under medical supervision in a doctor-led clinic overseen by Dr Ehsan Jadoon (MED0001586460), Registered Medical Practitioner (general registration), with a qualified clinical team. A range of medical-grade platforms lets the device and settings be selected for your individual skin and hair type, your skin is assessed beforehand, and the realistic degree of reduction, the number of sessions and the risks are explained openly, with no pressure to proceed. To see whether it suits you, book a consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Is laser hair removal effective?

Dermatological lasers and IPL devices have been used for hair reduction for several decades. The procedure works by damaging hair follicles to inhibit or delay future hair growth, delaying growth for long periods, though it does not usually result in permanent hair removal. Laser hair removal does not cause skin cancer.

What are the risks of laser hair removal?

Potential risks include skin irritation, temporary redness and swelling, minor burns, hyperpigmentation (more likely in darker skin types), and under-response. These risks are increased when treatments are performed by poorly trained practitioners or with low-grade equipment, which is why the choice of clinic matters.

Which body areas can be treated?

Most hair-bearing areas can be treated. Commonly treated areas include underarms, legs, forearms, bikini line and facial areas (chin, upper lip, brows, sideburns) for women, and chest, back, neck, forearms, ears and hands for men.

Are all laser platforms the same?

No. Laser devices vary in build quality and capability, which affects how effectively and safely they can be used. At MedAesthetics we use medical-grade laser platforms.

Is laser hair removal better than IPL?

In general, laser is considered more effective than IPL, though this depends on the power and build quality of the specific machine.

How many sessions do I need?

This varies from person to person. Most people need several sessions for a noticeable, lasting reduction; the degree of reduction and number of sessions vary by skin and hair type. We estimate this for you at your consultation.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

No. Results are long-lasting but not permanent, and maintenance treatments may be needed over time.

The clinical team at MedAesthetics is at the forefront of addressing the entire spectrum of cosmetic facial rejuvenation, anti-ageing, hair restoration, laser and cosmetic surgery.
