The HydraFacial is a non-invasive facial treatment that a lot of people ask us about. Below we explain what it involves, how it differs from a standard facial, who it may suit, and its limitations.
What is a HydraFacial?
A HydraFacial is sometimes compared to microdermabrasion. The HydraFacial MD uses a combination of chemical exfoliants, controlled suction and vortex technology to cleanse the skin and deliver hydrating ingredients. As the applicator moves across the skin, suction helps remove dirt and dead skin cells, alpha hydroxy acids help loosen the bonds between dead skin cells, and beta hydroxy acids help loosen congestion.
The treatment finishes with a hydrating serum infusion, which is intended to support the skin’s moisture levels.
Skin types suited for HydraFacial
A HydraFacial may be suitable for a range of skin types, which is part of why it is a popular option. It may be considered by people with concerns such as fine lines, congestion or a dull-looking complexion who are working towards the appearance of healthier skin. Whether it suits you, and what result is realistic, depends on your individual skin.
Some conditions — such as active rashes or rosacea — may not respond well to the ingredients used in a HydraFacial. Our clinicians can assess your skin and give you the information you need to decide whether the treatment is appropriate for you.
HydraFacial at MedAesthetics
At MedAesthetics, a HydraFacial can be combined with Healite LED therapy. LED therapy is used to stimulate cellular activity, and research suggests it may support processes such as collagen production and skin healing, though individual responses vary.
A HydraFacial generally involves little downtime, though mild redness can occur afterwards and usually settles for most people within a few hours. Results are temporary: any benefit is typically maintained with an ongoing skincare routine and repeat treatments over time, and individual results vary.
A HydraFacial may be an option whether you are after general skin maintenance or want to address concerns such as congestion, dehydration, a dull complexion or fine lines. What is suitable for you, and what outcome is realistic, can only be determined after an individual assessment.
